I am appalled by this facebook group which has 228,840 members. Just search for …It’s funny how our flag offends you but our benefits don’t!!!… and get as angry as I am.

I am an Austrian living in London. I will support England in this World Cup as I have supported England in 2006. However, with co-fans like these I have to seriously consider. I look forward to Londoners from where ever they are originally (USA, Germany, Portugal, South Africa, Italy, France, Brazil, Ghana,….) to support their teams, wave their flags and sing their songs and so should the English where ever they are in the world during the world cup. Let’s be proud of exceptional players which ever country they are from. Let’s celebrate teams that work well together. Celebrate excellence in the game. But let’s promise us one thing: Don’t let the racists, the xenophobes and the bigots of this world divide us and pitch us against each other. Don’t let them spoil our World Cup!

This facebook group links to the website of the FA (http://www.thefa.com/england)

The FA should distance itself immediately from this website.

Please find below the full description of the group’s aims:

…Okay now anyone with half a brain cell knows the World Cup starts next month, & I like any other English person wants to support my country…Yet it’s now become apparent that even supporting England has become politically incorrect!!!…The flying of the English flag & the wearing of the England shirt have now become banned in certain pubs & clubs during the tornument to avoid upsetting people of other cultures & religions…If they have that much of a problem with the English being Patriotic, why the FUCK are you here anyway?!?!…Is it something to do with the free benefits you get?!?!…Perhaps it’s the free council houses?!?!…Whatever way you look at it, it’s a damn sight better than the war-torn, poverty stricken, third world countries you came from!!!…So what gives you or anyone the right to ban our flag?!?!…If the English government suddenly imposed a ban on the burkha or turban we’d be in World War III!!!…We accept you for who you are…That includes your faith, culture & religion…So don’t expect to come here and change our way of living…Coz ban or no ban, next month I WILL be flying my England flag, and I WILL be wearing my England shirt…If you’re gonna be flying your flag and wearing your shirt with pride this Summer, join this group!!!…C’MON ENGLAND!!!…

With so many undecided voters that close to the elections, every door knocked, every letter delivered, every hand shook and every conversation had can make all the difference especially in three-way marginals.

Jim faces a double euro-sceptic threat in his constituency. George Galloway’s Respect Party seems to think of Europe as an irrelevance. They didn’t even field candidates in the European Elections last year. The real threat, however, is that the euro-ignorant Respect party wins enough of the Labour vote to let the Tories in by the default. Since last week the Tories have let the euro-phobic cat out of the bag. Faced with Nick making inroads in Dave’s vote, they have started accusing the LibDems of leading the UK in to a European ‘Super-state’ and to be soft on immigration. A right-wing euro-sceptic’s dream combination as it merges small government rhetoric with euro/xeno-phobic sentiments.

Come on Saturday and help to re-elect Jim and to make Britain a fairer, greener, safer and more pro-European country.

Don’t let the Tory get away with it!

If you will not have already joined us by then for to the Financial Transaction Tax Campaign session, which starts at 10am

you can join us for Jim’s campaign

at 11:30 for the morning session

at 13:15 for lunch or

at 14:00 for the afternoon session.

Please RSVP to lme.lse@hotmail.co.uk or call 07976 252 768 and let us know which session you will be attending.
Meeting point at all these times is Jim’s Campaign HQ
11 Market Way, E14 6AH next to Chrisp Street Market.
[It's close to All Saints and Langdon Park DLR stations - the Bus Number 15 also goes there.]

I had a really enjoyable day of campaigning in Hammersmith. I even managed to get sunburnt in the process for the first time this year. It was great to catch up with German and US American comrades I met the Saturday before when we were out for the campaign launch of Sadiq Khan in Tooting. It was also great to see French, Italian and Portugues friends again, who were also out in Tooting and or in Islington on March 20. And to meet so many new PES sister party activists. As on the Saturdays before parliamentary and local candidates as well as everybody in the local Labour party made us feel welcome and at home right from the start.

Hammersmith can really do with 4-5 more years of Andy Slaughter MP and a Labour Government. Having seen the effects of the socially divisive policies this Tory run Council has been advancing, you can only wish for all the local citizens that Labour will be able to wrestle back control locally as well on May 6.

I am just worried about this new tribal confidence I have detected amongst Lib-Dem voters. Clegg’s perfomance in the leaders’ debate on ITV and subsequent polling results seem to have made them immune to the Tory squeeze message (As in “this is a Labour-Tory marginal, by voting Lib-Dem you let the Tories in”) So is Clegg’s success this Thursday a blessing in disguise for Cameron? Let’s hope not. Because we all know what the Tories stand for and not only in terms of their position on Europe.

Don’t Let the Tories Get Away with it!

Since almost every country and continent is represented in Hammersmith, we decided it was the right kind of constituency for our third European day of action in key marginal seats in London.

The Labour candidate Andy Slaughter is a dedicated local MP and a committed pro-European with a clear record in supporting diversity of communities, equality and integration.

Come on Saturday and help electing him and making Britain a fairer, greener, safer and more pro-European country.

Join us for a morning of campaigning – lunch – another afternoon session till 4pm – and a well deserved drink or two thereafter.
Please feel free to also join us for either the morning or afternoon, should you not be able to make the whole day.

We will start at 10:30 at the Hammersmith Labour Party HQ, in Greyhound Road number 28 – W6 8NX
